The Capitol Lagoon

The Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol and Lagoon. Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines
The Capitol lagoon right at the heart of Bacolod City, the provincial capital of Negros Occidental has always been a favorite hang out for people of all ages and from all walks of life. It is also a favorite spot by health conscious individuals, and martial artists. Seven days a week from the early hours of the morning you will see people stretching their limbs, brisk walking, jogging, and running. Some even form groups and perform group exercises like aerobics and Tae Bo. Badminton has become a fad for people of all ages.

Martial artists on the other hand can be easily spotted because of their unique training regimen. You can see them shadow boxing and kicking, and doing fight drills somewhere in the park. The uniqueness of their craft can be recognized particularly by the equipment, or by exercises they perform. For instance, Arnis practitioners carry with them rattan sticks to practice their moves. Boxers and kick boxers can be spotted running and throwing punches in the air while Karatekas and Tai Chi devotees perform kata at their favorite park area. Judokas would find a tree or a lamppost and practice a one-man "uchikomi".

As serene as the picture of the lagoon is the inner feeling of working out - a dedication to training for the martial artist. Not all martial artists, however, may continue to patronize the lagoon. Perhaps, too much noise and distraction may lead some of them to train in the dojo. After all, training for the martial artist is not confined to a particular place. Training is from within. But the Capitol lagoon will always be a favorite ground for people who cherish life - martial artists and non-martial artists alike.

An updated Martial Arts Dojo Directory of the entire Negros Island will be published here. This is to provide you valid information in case you come for a visit. Watch out for it.
