2ND DON BOSCO M.A. EXPO HELD

The Don Bosco Aikido Satori Dojo of Roberto “Bert” A. Alaban Jr. successfully held the 2nd Don Bosco Martial Arts Expo on January 30, 2005 at the Don Bosco Gymnasium, Don Bosco Technical School, Victorias City. 55 martial artists representing 6 organizations from Bacolod and Victorias Cities gave exhibitions on the various fighting arts to about 200 spectators.

Participating groups were Bacolod Aikido Enthusiasts (BAE) of Maxwell “Max” J. Maun Sensei, Conceptual Martial Arts Society (CMAS) of Instructor James U. Sy Jr., Dekiti Tirsia Sirradas of Master Dante Buenaflor, Don Bosco Aikido Satori Dojo (DBASD) of Roberto “Bert” A. Alaban Jr. Sensei, Kyokan Dojo (KD) of Noel “Nonong” and Stella Fuentes Senseis, and VMC Sarkara Judo Club of Mario Sioquim Sensei.

The harmonious art of aikido was well represented with performances from BAE, DBASD, and KD. Different nage waza and osae waza from the tachi and suwari positions were demonstrated, either as taijutsu “body arts” or with the use of weapons.

The VMC Sarkara Judo Club showed their own version of nage waza and osae waza as prescribed by the Philippine Amateur Judo Association.

Khenn Providencia of CMAS gave a pencak silat jurus (forms) demonstration of empty hands and blade, the first ever in the city of Victorias. Then, Sy and Providencia gave a demonstration of Lapu-Lapu Viñas arnis which included paired sinawali, solo baston vs doble baston, solo baston vs solo baston, pangamut, and doble daga, the first demonstration of the art in Don Bosco.

The Dekiti Tirsia Sirradas Group exhibited their own interpretations of stickfighting and empty handed defenses against the knife. Master Buenaflor is a student Grandmaster Jerson “Nene” Tortal of Talisay City.

The first edition of the event was held last February 1, 2004. BAE, DBASD, KD, and VMCSJC as well as the Don Bosco taekwondo and karate teams were in attendance.
