The Fight Club Combat and Streetfighting Center of Founder/Chief Instructor Edwin J. Tusil Sensei made history anew with their highly successful hosting of the Fight Club B.R.A.W.L. (Bacolod Reality Amateur Warrior's League) last December 10, 2005 at the Riverside Medical College Quadrangle, Bacolod City. 24 fighters from 5 Bacolod-based martial arts organizations fought a total of 12 bouts in the mixed martial arts and grappling divisions witnessed by about 550-600 spectators.

The tournament was historic in that it was the first ever mixed martial arts and the first ever purely grappling tournament to be held in a college in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, the Negros Island, Western Visayas, and the Visayas.


Excitement builds up at the Riverside Medical College Quadrangle as the audience awaits the start of the Fight Club B.R.A.W.L. (Bacolod Reality Amateur Warrior's League).

The Brotherhood of Mixed Martial Artists of Bacolod (BOMB), the first ever mixed martial arts alliance in the Visayas founded last December 6, 2003, sanctioned the bouts. Version 2 of the B.O.M.B. Mixed Martial Arts Tournament Rules was implemented.

Submission Sport Philippines (A.K.A. Pasukuang Laban)-Bacolod Team (SSP-BT) of Coach Jek Ferrer, the tournament’s defending champion, dominated the mixed martial arts event with 4 wins and the grappling division with 2 wins.

SSP-BT previously carted 3 wins out of 4 bouts in the 1st Fight Club Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Challenge (FCAMMAC) held last September 24, 2005 at the Atrium Area, Gaisano City Bacolod Supermall, Brgy. Singcang, Araneta St., Bacolod City (see http://fmacircle,ph.tc for results). It again made its presence felt in the 11-bout Universal Reality Combat Championships (URCC) Provincial Tour held last November 19, 2005 in Dumaguete City where 4 of its fighters won (see http://urcc.net/ for results).

The organizing Fight Club (FC) and the Black Falcon Martial Arts Association-Main (BFMAA-Main) of Wushu Federation of the Philippines (WFP) Negros Occidental Coordinator Joery C. Amante Sensei tied at 2nd place with 2 wins each in the mixed martial arts event. The newly revived Octagon Martial Arts (OMA) of Jun Rojo Sensei placed 3rd with a win.

The Fight Club and Warriors Club of B.O.M.B. Health Management Chairman Roy Flores Sr. Sensei tied at 2nd place in the grappling division with a wins each.

GRAPPLING. In the first bout, 2005 FCAMMAC 58 kg. champion Rameses Aloro of SSP-BT, 119 lbs., made short work of Ravelo Guavez of OMA, 122 lbs., with a perfect throw (body slam). Another grappler from SSP-BT, 2005 URCC Provincial Tour winner Obet Canlas, 129 lbs., ended the second match abruptly when he threw Glofred Libo-on of OMA, 122 lbs.

Former judo player Ronico D. Despabeladeros of FC, 166 lbs., went to the 3rd bout as the underdog against grappling sensation Chester Laquian of SSP-BT, 150 lbs. The match started out with Laquian having his way with ground grappling on the mat, most of the times on his back in the guard position. Laquian is notorious with finishing moves while on the ground but Despabeladeros made a big upset when he threw Laquian using an ippon seionage (one arm shoulder throw) when the fight resumed in the standing position. The match was clocked at below 2 minutes of the allotted 5 minute limit.

In the 4th bout, 2005 Talisay City Baston Championships contender Alan Mario Facturan of Warrior’s Club, 140 lbs., was overpowered by the taller Timmy Fuentebella of SSP-BT, 140 lbs., in several occasions. Facturan took the win by pinning Fuentebella in a modified yoko shiho gatame (side mount) several seconds before the match expired.

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS. In the first bout, Jan-Jan Javier of SSP-BT, 109 lbs., TKOed Ramel Delgado of OMA, 107 lbs., in the 1st round. 2005 Dancalan kickboxing champion Julius Dohinog of BFMAA-Main, 110 lbs., dominated Virgilio Rojo of OMA, 113 lbs., with wushu sanshou takedowns to snatch a unanimous decision victory.

Former Philippine national wushu trainee and 2005 Cong. Raul Gonzales Cup wushu sanshou champion Jet Lumawag of BFMAA-Main, 114 lbs., and Mark Rojo of OMA, 115 lbs., went toe to toe in a bout won by Lumawag via unanimous decision.

In the fourth bout, underdog Eugene Yunque of FC, 121 lbs., faced crowd favorite and 2005 FCAMMAC 57-59 kg. champion Milo Abelido of SSP-BT, 120 lbs. The bout started out with both fighters being tentative and cautious. Yunque opened up with a powerful low thigh kick. Both fighters moved around to get the right chance to attack. Yunque prevented Abelido from using his renowned grappling skills by firing another roundhouse kick. Yunque surprised the audience with an upset KO victory.

Neophyte Gallon of OMA, 121 lbs., stood his ground and beat last minute replacement and 2nd BOMB MMA champion Romulo S. Cañete Jr. of BFMAA-Main via 1st round TKO. Cañete substituted for 2003 All Negros wushu sanshou champion Andres Villarmia, also of BFMAA-Main. In the sixth match, Mark T. Lusabia of FC, 128 lbs., defeated Alvin Libo-on of OMA, 128 lbs., in a primarily striking bout via judges decision.

Fighters from SSP-BT dominated the last 3 bouts. 2005 URCC Provincial Tour contender Adonis Arellano, 131 lbs., forced a tapout from the game Elijah Sian of FC, 132 lbs. 2005 URCC Provincial Tour contender Timmie Ledesma won over Jessie Fuentes of FC, 140 lbs., via judges decision.

The main event was a battle between heavyweights. 2005 FCAMMAC 84-90 kg. champion and 2005 URCC Provincial Tour winner Adrian Hillana of SSP-BT, 175 lbs., forced Peter Paul Guinto of FC, 167 lbs., to submit. Guinto ran out of steam.

Enrico Benetti, maker of quality bags based in Italy, recognized 3 of the competitors. The awardees were Eugene Yunque of Fight Club (Best K.O.), Ronico D. Despabeladeros of Fight Club (Best Takedown), and Adrian Hillana of Submission Sport Philippines-Bacolod Team (Best Submission). The awardees were given knapsacks/backpacks amounting to more P2,000.00.
