MUAY THAI FITNESS LAUNCHED IN DUMAGUETE
The Muay Thai Fitness program was officially launched by the Dumaguete Muay Thai Association, a member of the Muay Association of the Philippines, last December 2, 2005 in Dumaguete City. Muay Thai Fitness is a specialized program for professionals, students, and children that integrates Muay Boran (Traditional Thai Boxing) movements into an aerobic focus and structure. The program aims to improve and maintain cardiovascular efficiency, physical fitness, flexibility, body coordination, reflexes, and of course, defensive skills.
Muay Thai Fitness program differs from the standard Muay Thai training regimen is that the trainee trains like a fighter but doesn’t spar. Such a program will best fit people whose objective is to slim down and/or stay fit or just to learn effective defensive skills as opposed to fighting in the ring. The program includes the standard Muay Boran punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and footwork executed in shadowboxing fashion and combined with various attribute enhancing exercises.
Muay Association of the Philippines Visayas and Region 7 Head Ike Xavier Villaflores, with the support of his teaching staff, spearheaded the successful launching of the program. His teaching staff include Marina M. Villaflores, Jojie Pasagdan, James Recaberte, Fortunato Sechico, and Walter Zaldiriaga among others.
Muay Thai (Muay Boran) in the Philippines is governed by the Muay Association of the Philippines, the duly recognized National Sport Association (NSA) by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC). Its president is Kru Roberto B. Valdez.
More than 20 trainees are now enrolled in the Muay Thai Fitness program, among them doctors, nurses, and other professionals. Interested parties may contact Kru Villaflores at 0928-772-2874.
