RAPID JOURNAL TO BE DONATED TO USLS

Daniel Go, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Rapid Journal, will be donating 34 copies of the magazine to the University of St. La Salle College Library. Go is making the donation thru the Conceptual Martial Arts Society-University of St. La Salle (CMAS-USLS). CMAS-USLS Club President Joy M. Gallos and Club Moderator Narciso “Hansy” L. Alojado of the Center for La Sallian Ministries (CELAM) are currently making arrangements with the USLS College Library for the turnover.

Rapid Journal is a quarterly publication based in Binondo with subscribers in Finland, France, and the USA and copies sold in Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Thailand. Rapid stands for Research and Propagation for Internal Arts Development.

Rapid Journal traces its roots from the now defunct Wushu Newsletter which was published by the Rapid Group/Department of the Wushu Federation of the Philippines (WFP) in 1995. Mr. Go, who is a 2 times SEA games tai ji quan champion (1991, 1993), headed that department. Wushu Federation of the Philippines is the National Sport Association of wushu in the country as recognized by the Philippine Sports Commission. Go started Rapid Journal in 1996 after leaving WFP.

As the Philippines’ one and only and longest running martial arts magazine/resource, Rapid Journal originally documented the internal or “soft” styles of martial arts such as tai chi chuan, pa kua chuan, and aikido. But later it also featured articles on the different Asian martial arts, including the various Filipino warrior traditions. Rapid Journal features historical, theoretical, and technical articles and reflections on the martial arts, healing arts, and related subjects like self protection and philosophy.

Rapid Journal has become home to some of the most prominent, respected, and credible martial arts historians, scholars, writers, and/or authorities in the Philippines today who can take their place next to world renown martial arts authorities such as Donn F. Draeger (Nihon koryu bujutsu), Stanley Pranin (aikido), John Chambers (European Renaissance fencing), etc. Notable Rapid journal writers include Dr. Ned R. Nepangue of Cebu, anthropologist and University of the Philippines Prof. Felipe Jocano Jr., FMA Master Pedro Reyes of Manila, University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics Prof. Marilitz Dizon, Acupuncturist and FMA Master Rene J. Navarro, Negrense FMA historian and instructor James U. Sy Jr. of Bacolod, among others.
