ARNIS, KUNG FU TALK AT TUBURAN STUDY CENTER



“The World of Kung Fu and Arnis” talk and demo was sponsored by the Tuburan Study Center hosted during the its Get Together on February 4, 2006 at the Tuburan Study Center, 49 Gen. Luna St., Iloilo City.

Guest speakers were Chapter Head Dr. Raymund Antonio A. Maguad, Dr. Rey Mollenido, and Dr. Eugene Alicante with the assistance of WVSU College of Medicine Junior Intern Alexander Sangrador. All guest speakers were from the Conceptual Martial Arts Society-Iloilo Chapter (CMAS-Iloilo) and Western Visayas State University (WVSU) College of Medicine.

15 students and professionals from the University of the Philippines-Visayas and Miag-ao, University of San Agustin (USA), West Visayas State University (WVSU) College of Medicine, and West Bridge School for Boys were in attendance.

The medical professionals gave the attendees an overview of the historical, cultural, philosophical, and technical aspects of the Negrosanon Filipino martial arts of oido de caburata, tapado, and Yasay sable as well as the Chinese art of long quan (dragon fist/boxing).

The Tuburan Study Center hosts periodic Get Together to give students and professionals the opportunity to interact with each other about current socio-cultural matters and interesting activities. The TSC was founded in 1991 as a project of the Daguiao Foundation Inc. to help students of Iloilo City to learn from their peers and professionals as well. Project Coordinator is Roger P. Sarmiento.

Conceptual Martial Arts Society-Iloilo Chapter was started by Dr. Maguad sometime in June 2005 and then formalized last December 2005. Dr. Maguad serves as Chapter Head for the Iloilo Chapter and a Board Director/Incorporator for the soon to be SEC registered CMAS. He has backgrounds in Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian martial arts and will soon be certified as a regional judge for Muay Association of the Philippines-Visayas Chapter.

Conceptual Martial Arts Society is a non-profit, non-political brotherhood/network of professionals binded by their love for the martial arts and by their desire to research, study, practice, document, systematize, organize, preserve, stimulate interest in, propagate, and promote the various warrior traditions of Negrense Filipino martial arts (FMA), indigenous and foreign based alike, as well as other Asian and Occidental martial arts in Bacolod City, the Negros Island, and if possible the Philippines and the world.
