ARNIS MASTER GIVES FMA TALK TO KOREAN STUDENTS
At the invitation of Professor Jeeray de Leon, Master Ferdinand Emmanuel “Bobot” Y. Gayoles gave a talk on the Filipino martial arts (FMA) to 12 Korean English students on August 9, 2005 at the University of St. La Salle, La Salle Avenue, Bacolod City.
The talk was mean to familiarize Korean students with one aspect of Filipino culture which is not often given enough attention in the academe. Master Gayoles discussed the history, unique characteristics, and anthropological significance of FMA. The talk was the first such lecture on FMA made for Korean students in any university in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.
Gayoles has a master’s ranking in the Negrense arts of Yasay sable, Lapu-Lapu Viñas arnis, and oido de caburata arnis, a senior instructor grade in Vasquez modified tapado, a 3rd degree black belt in taekwondo, and a black belt in Vasquez modified karate.
