JUFIMAC, CEFIMAC INTRODUCES WUSHU SANSHOU IN SAN CARLOS

Wushu sanshou action at the 1st San Carlos City Kickboxing and Wushu Sanshou Interclub Tournament on March 11, 2005 at the San Carlos City Auditorium, San Carlos City.

The Jungle Fighters Martial Arts Club (JUFIMAC) and the Centralian Fighters Martial Arts Club (CEFIMAC) of Founder Diomedes N. Mamugay Sensei in cooperation with BM Entertainment of Enrique “Ecky” Mesias successfully held the 1st San Carlos City Kickboxing and Wushu Sanshou Interclub Tournament on March 11, 2005 under the sanction of the Wushu Federation of the Philippines-Negros Occidental at the San Carlos City Auditorium, San Carlos City. 10 martial arts organizations from Bacolod, Canlaon, and San Carlos Cities figured in 6 wushu sanshou bouts, 10 kickboxing matches, 3 exhibition fights, and 3 martial arts demonstrations with spectators numbering between 700-800.

The event was the first ever wushu sanshou competition to be held in the city of San Carlos and the first one to feature wushu sanshou artists from Bacolod City.

JUFIMAC was overall champion in the wushu sanshou competition with 4 wins. CEFIMAC and RPSS tied at 2nd place with a win each. BFMAA-Main was overall champion in the kickboxing competition with 4 wins. MCTC was 2nd place with 2 wins. CEFIMAC, COJUKA, JUFIMAC, and RPSS tied at 3rd place with a win each.

Mamugay and Instructor Jerry Nodnod, Modern Combat Taekwondo Club (MCTC)-Canlaon City Chapter of Founder/President ret. PNP Lt. Col. Epifanio Mercado Sr. and Instructor Joerdan Oca, Roaring Panther Self Defense Society (RPSS) of Founder/Chief Instructor Ricaredo Panunciar, Sipaway Island Fighters Martial Arts Club (SIFMAC) of Chief Instructor Florentino Aliganga, and Tapondo International Federation Inc.-Negros (TIFI-Negros) of Instructors Danny Lopez and Florencio Yap.

All 12 contestants were the first in San Carlos City, and in the case of Villarmia Bacolod City, to compete in a wushu sanshou competition in the city of San Carlos.

DEMONSTRATIONS. TIFI-Negros (tapondo aikido), Conceptual Martial Arts Society-Bacolod Main (Lapu-Lapu Viñas arnis), and JUFIMAC (karate). The exhibition by CMAS-Main Founder James U. Sy Jr. was the first ever demonstration of Lapu-Lapu Viñas arnis in San Carlos City.

Carlos Atienza (jury/chief judge), James U. Sy Jr. of CMAS-Main (asst. jury/co-emcee), JUFIMAC President Jose Dennis Baroa Jr. (primary emcee), Joery C. Amante of BFMAA (referee), and Capt. Gregorio “Digoy” Broce, Claudio Baran of Zodiacs, Johnny Baran of Uraken Karate Club (UKC), Jose V. Caballero of Zon Karate Club (Cebu), Junese S. Caldelero of UKC, Boy Mendoza of Najukaju-A, Lt. Col. Epifanio Mercado Sr. of MCTC-Canlaon City Chapter, and Aquilino “Yoyo” Saavedra of UKC (judges).
