NEGRENSE US NAVY TEACHES SHOOTO AT FC
Negrense PO2/ET2 Jeff Villarosa Behimino of the US Navy made a visit to his friend and former classmate, Edwin J. Tusil, and ended up teaching a session for Tusil’s Fight Club Combat and Streetfighting Center on July 14, 2005 at the Sam’s Slim Gym, 3F JTL Bldg., B.S. Aquino Drive, Bacolod City.
Behimino, who is in active duty in surface and air warfare with the US Navy at the US Naval Base in Yokosuka, Japan, shared some basic shooto moves to Chief Instructor Tusil and 5 of his students. It was the first documented introduction and presence of shooto in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental. Shooto is a Japanese hybrid/mixed martial art that combines striking (primarily kickboxing) and grappling (primarily Brazilian jui-jitsu).
While Behimino did taekwondo when he was in Seoul Korea (2003) and muay Thai when he was in Pattaya, Thailand (2004), it was in shooto where he stayed longest. Behimino is enrolled at the Hakkei Shooto MMA Gym, Kunazawa Hakkei, Yokohama, Japan. Hakkei Shooto MMA Gym is being run by Nobuhiko Watanabe who specializes in muay Thai and also teaches classes. Instructors include No. 1 world BJJ light heavyweight contender Yamashita, Shiko, former world shooto flyweight champion Masato, Oishi, and shooto bantamweight fighter Maruyama, Eiji.
